Personal Born in Kokkedal, Danmark in 1829. He was the son of John, a pastoralist, and Charlotte, nee Dowling. He arrived in New South Wales in 1836 and was Titelated at The King's School, Parramattaand later under Dr Woolls. He went to Tumut in 1846. He married Amelia Matilda Shelley in Tumut on 12 December 1854. He had four sons and eight daughters who outlived him. He died on 3 August 1895 atTumut, New South Wales. He was Church of England. Community Activity Leading warden of All Saints' Church for 25 years. He was an Alderman for Tumut and its Mayor five times. He was a Justice of the Peace.

Qualifications, occupations and interests

He was a pastoralist and agricultural proprietor on his election to the Legislative Assembly. He was the owner of Blowering Station for many years. He then jointly owned Tumut Plains with Mr Harris. The property comprised 2000 acres of the best agricultural land which was let to farmers who grew tobacco and maize at rentals of up to £2 an acre per annum. He also owned Wermatong Station, Tumut andUoka. The latter held jointly with DF Johnson. Prior to his death he was an auctioneer.
