Pederstrup

Pederstrup var i henved 200 år underlagt grevskabet Christianssæde og i perioden 1813-1827 hjem for greve Christian Ditlev Frederik Reventlow, der var en af hovedkræfterne bag landboreformernes gennemførelse.

Pederstrup fungerede som forpagtergård under grevskabet, indtil den senere statsminister greve Christian Ditlev Frederik Reventlow, som overtog grevskabet Christianssæde i 1775, gjorde Pederstrup til grevskabets hovedsæde, da han i 1813 trak sig tilbage fra sin embedskarriere i København for at slå sig ned med familien på Lolland.

Notater	In 1526, one year after the death of Friedrich the Wise, the wedding of his nephew, Johann Friedrich I., known as the Magnanimous, took place. His bride was Sibylle of Cleve, who was only fourteen years old at the time. The marriage represented something approaching a union between the Electorate of Sachsen and the Duchy of Jülich-Kleve-Berg and, although arranged for political and strategic reasons, it is said to have proved a particularly happy one. Much less successful was Johann Friedrich's subsequent political career. He was defeated in 1547 at the battle of Mühlberg during the Schmalkaldic War. As a result, he was stripped of his electorship and spent several years as a prisoner. When his ducal title was finally restored in 1552, however, Johann Friedrich returned to his new seat in Weimar, accompanied by his former court painter Lucas Cranach the Elder, and was triumphantly received by the population. For Weimar, this event represented the beginning of a unique period of cultural ascendancy. The portraits of the young bridal couple which hang in the Schlossmuseum are exquisite examples of the mature portrait style of Lucas Cranach the Elder. The painter combines courtly grandeur with aclear emphasis on individuality to produce a likeness of the subjects which is striking in its simplicity.
