Heinrich Maret, residing in Metz, [Kammerplatz] 47, … and reported that of the unmarried (ledige) Marie Lallemand, of Catholic religion, residing in Metz, of no fixed residence, at the Metz Maternité (maternity hospital), on the fifth of September 1892, in the forenoon, a child of female sex was born, who received the given names Germaine Laurence Irena. The declarant stated that he had been present at the confinement (delivery) of the unmarried Lallemand. Read aloud, approved, signed — Maret."

Real birth: 5 September 1892, Metz (born the 5th, registered the 6th), at the city maternity hospital.
Mother: the unmarried "Marie Lallemand" — that's your Blanche (Marie-Gabrielle Blanche Lallement), and she is explicitly recorded as ledige (single).
NO father is named. The birth was reported not by any father but by the attending physician, Dr. Maret, who was present at the delivery. And there's no margin note of any later legitimation or paternal recognition.
And the human reality behind the fairy tale is striking: Blanche was born in October 1875, so on 5 September 1892, she was 16 years old — an unwed teenager "of no fixed residence," giving birth in a charity maternity hospital in German-occupied Metz, far from her Champagne village. That is the origin that the Reventlow family later papered over with "Countess Marie Gabrielle d'Allemont de Broutillot."

- Germaine herself, the stepdaughter, was kept on the margins. Her existence was so concealed that in public she had to call her own mother "ma tante" (my aunt). She did remember one kindness, though. She said that Ernst had been generous to her and later helped her with the difficult task of proving her ancestry when she had no father to name.
